In November, a bill was passed in SLO County to officially offer Central Coast Community Energy to the entire county. In this article we discuss the effects of 3CE.
Tiered Rate, Time of Use 1, Time of Use 2, Elec Home Plan, Net Metering, etc. 3CE offers the exact same rates as PG&E. 3CE is not responsible for billing or maintaining power lines, they just make their own power.
PG&E currently charges roughly $0.46 per kWh used. 3CE charges only $0.41 per kWh. Whether or not you have solar, you still have to pay for power used that you do not produce, and 3CE is a cheaper source for that power.
3CE generates its own power from cleaner, more renewable energy sources than PG&E. They charge around $0.11 per kWh to produce that power compared to PG&E's $0.16 per kWh. As a 3CE customer, on your PG&E bill, they will charge you for that generation.
You still get a PG&E bill. PG&E charges $0.30 per kWh to deliver the power to your home and maintain their energy grid. This is regardless of the cost to actually produce that power. Choosing 3CE is choosing a better source to generate it.
